In Memory and Light
New Delhi, 2000
This posthumous exhibition brought together some of Manohar Kaul’s last landscapes, celebrating his mastery across watercolour, oil, and acrylic. Whether on paper or canvas, his art conveyed a profound serenity and spiritual reflection drawn from the Himalayan stillness he so often turned to. Increasingly meditative in his final years, his works became imbued with silence, colour, and clarity. Both farewell and affirmation, the exhibition—organised by the AIFACS—stood as a luminous tribute to Kaul’s lifelong devotion to art and the society he helped shape.

Press Reviews

“Pt. Manohar Kaul was something of an institution. In half a century he painted and wrote, and made a signal contribution both as an artist and an art critic. This memorial exhibition brings together a fine selection of his water-colours and oils, and highlights his tremendous talent in both these disciplines. His beloved Kashmir was always deeply embedded in his consciousness, and shows in all his paintings. Pt. Manohar Kaul’s three volume History of Indian Art is a standard work of scholarship which will remain a valuable reference work. My deep personal association with him goes back several decades. I pay my tribute to his memory. – Dr. Karan Singh, 8 Dec 2000
